After months of staying in, we're excited to leave behind the home workouts and stretch our legs (literally) in the Hertfordshire countryside again. With warmer weather on the way and Parkrun set to return from 5th June, now is the perfect time to dust off your running shoes and pick up the pace.
Whether you’re taking your first steps towards Parkrun in Hertfordshire, taking on Couch to 5K or in search of your next long run for half marathon training, Hertfordshire’s countryside and winding trails were made for lacing up your trainers and heading out for a run. Ready to stretch your legs in Hertfordshire? We’ll see you at the start line!
You’ve heard about the beauty of the Chilterns, but have you heard about the Chiltern Hills Challenge? 36 miles of footpaths await on this two day challenge, but it doesn’t matter whether you’re a newby runner or ultra marathon champion, you’ll have a full team of support to help you put one foot in front of the other. And with a night’s rest in a comfortable bed and a hot breakfast to follow, you’ll be on top of the world as you run through tiny villages and woodland, all against the backdrop of the Chiltern Hills.
Hill challenges
Got your barcode ready? Sounds like you’re ready to take on a Parkrun. Great views, forest trails – trust us, you’ll be begging for a second lap of the Panshanger Parkrun. Plus, with lake views, gentle inclines and grass tracks, it’s perfect for a bit of view-seeking along the way – you’ll thank us later!
Great views
With a lake at its heart, this pretty Parkrun is great for Saturday morning exercise! Tour the beautiful Verlamium Park, just a stone’s throw from St Albans Cathedral and you’ll have a picture-perfect run, whatever the weather and no trail shoes necessary! Plus, as it’s just a short walk from the city centre, you’ll find plenty of coffee shops to toast your new PB.
Lace up your trainers
In the heart of Watford, Cassiobury Park’s timed, weekly Parkrun is the perfect wake up for your weekend. Plus, with tarmac paths throughout the course, there’s no need to worry about mud come winter (sorry, did we just take away your best cold weather excuse?) After two and a half laps you’ll get to race across the finish line, conveniently located right next to the café – it would be rude not to.
Stretch your legs
Looping around the pretty Fairlands Valley Park, this 5K will take you right around two lakes, so you can enjoy gorgeous views on the way to that PB. Race across the finish line and you'll end up just a conveniently short distance from the park's cafe - anyone fancy a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich?
Get your running shoes on
Trust us, it always helps to have a great view or two to take your mind off the miles, and it doesn't get much better than Knebworth House. Whether you choose to take on the 10K or really go for it with the half marathon distance, we can guarantee beautiful countryside and sightings of a manor house and parkland famed for its open air concerts, including that iconic Oasis concert!
Half in Herts
No trail shoes needed here, as Rickmansworth Parkrun is nice flat course along footpaths through the Aquadrome. Expect beautiful views across the two lakes as you make your way around the two lap course and along the River Colne, before finishing up with a coffee at the cafe.
