Getting active in Hertfordshire

Josh Carter
26th June 2019

With summer being the season of the Women’s World Cup, Wimbledon, The Tour De France and more, sport is all around us at the moment. If you’re after a full day of sport or a simply an evening after work, then this blog is sure to help with suggestions to get fit, and have fun of course!

The XC

Being a one of a kind facility in Hertfordshire if not England, The XC in Hemel Hempstead is one of those places that will appeal to everyone. Whether you’re after hitting the high ropes dangling way above the centre, quickly skimming the quarter pipes in the skatepark or even taking a slower pace by indulging in some yoga, there’s something for all the family or group of friends. As we’re on the topic of summer, there’s also a chance to drop the kids off as each school holiday there’s activities from scooter camps to 1 to 1 skating lessons. Lock in at The XC

Vertigo Adventures

High ropes, low ropes and climbing – all in a day's work at Vertigo. Sitting just on the edge of Welwyn Garden City the outdoor adventure centre is packed full of challenges. Take on your fears with activities such as the Trapeze Walk to the Twin Tube Tunnels, and if you are brave enough then be sure to launch yourself from the 30ft Plummet from the Summit and experience free fall! There’s group workshops and after school clubs too if you’re up for regular and group thrills. Give it a go

Snowcentre

It may sound crazy to get cold and have to wrap up in the summer, but doesn’t skiing in the height of summer sound even just slightly fun? At the Snowcentre, there’s fully fledged ski lifts, real snow slopes right through to pipes to grind on. Not only will heading over give you the chance to get up to scratch on your skills ready for the 2019/20 season but if you’re a newbie there’s lessons for families, groups and 1 to 1 too. Snow much fun

Rye House Kart Raceway

Topping off the exhilaration, thrill seeking section of this blog is Rye House Karting. The likes of top F1 drivers such as Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button have all driven and competed at the circuit, and you could be following in their footsteps (or tracks)! The circuit is open to everyone - adults or children and you’ll be kitted out in full race suits, helmets and gloves, with the option of the full adult or junior circuit. Open 7 days a week and available for kids parties and stag dos, put pedal to the metal whenever you like. Fasten your seatbelts

Open air swimming

When the days hold back the typical British summer weather, Hertfordshire's pools are the perfect spots to take a splash. Open air swimming pools are one the best ways to cool down and get active, all in the fresh air. Situated in Hitchin and Letchworth are two 50m heated pools, which both have large grass areas ideal for sunbathing and games if you aren’t swimming, as well as cafes – giving you that holiday feeling! Make your summer go swimmingly
