In the pretty village of Berkhamsted, Canal Fields should be on your shortlist for picnicking perfection come summer. Cool off with a stroll along the nearby Grand Union Canal and take in the old boats, perhaps gaining some design inspiration, all nautically themed!

Get back to nature in East Herts with a visit to the Ridgeway, a pretty park surrounded by wildlife, woodland and farmland – what bliss. If you’re in search of something little more active, the open grassland makes for a perfect place to take a morning run or walk.

Nature seekers, head to Bricket Wood Common for a patchwork of habitats and plethora of wildlife this summer. Stroll through acres of ancient woodland and heathland, and along winding streams for sightings of butterflies, great crested newts and yes, those beautiful bluebells!

Stroll into this hidden gem and you’d never guess you were within walking distance of Letchworth Garden City. 63 acres of grass and woodland are waiting to be explored and the tennis courts and outdoor pool are calling on those hot summer days.

Leavesden Country Park has something for everyone. There is a spectacular sensory garden, a heritage and wildlife centre and Leavesden Cycle Hub. To celebrate and recognise the local history of the Leavesden Hospitals, Leavesden Aerodrome and Film studios, there is a stunning Heritage Trail showcasing nine iconic sculptures nestled in the park reflecting the themes of ‘Minds, Machines and Movies’ each with its own interpretation board weaving in the history of the area.
Trust us this is a park for those who just can’t sit still! With a sailing centre and 20 acres of open water across four lakes, it’s safe to say you can soon clock up those nautical miles. If you fancy a canter, the horse and pony route takes in some of the best of the parkland.

Take to two wheels at Parkfields and discover a pretty park packed with wildlife. Relax in the Japanese Garden, take a stroll around the lake and soak up those glorious views and wide open spaces.
