Miles of rolling green countryside, dog-friendly spots and glorious gardens, is it any wonder Hertfordshire is a favourite location among our furry friends? If you're looking for the ultimate local spot to take your paw-fect pooch, then look no further - your trusty Visit Herts team has sniffed out the best locations to have been given the paw-print of approval by some of the most loyal dogs of Hertfordshire.

Please follow the latest government guidelines and check on the location's own website before visiting.

Pawfect Panshanger

Oh, Maximus, how could we ever say no to those puppy dog eyes? maximusthedaximus (to give him his full name) may only be a little fellow, but he's got one big following on Instagram. We love keeping track of this miniature dachshund's travels so much that it was hard to choose a favourite, but we think the skies over the beautiful Panshanger Park are the paw-fect backdrop for this photo. With wetlands, woodlands, plenty of wildlife and over 1,000 acres to sniff out, a visit to this favourite will tire out any four-legged friend (no matter how big they are).

Ivinghoe Beacon

Yes, we may be a bit obsessed with dachshunds, but this little wire-haired friend has only just moved to the UK and he's already taking the lead in finding some pretty picturesque places. Recently Frits' little legs carried him to the top of Ivinghoe Beacon, a hotspot at Ashridge Estate for Insta-worthy views (with or without a pup for company). Take a walk up here and you'll not only see plenty of four-legged friends, but signs of an Iron Age hillfort, wildflowers and butterflies. Paw-fection!

Steps Hill

Tongue out Tuesdays with parkerthegoldie are a favourite around here. Self-confessed digger Parker, loves exploring the Hertfordshire countryside, but this view of him atop Steps Hill is our absolute fur-vourite. The 9km trail sets out from beautiful Berkhamsted, offering glorious views for humans and heaps of sniffing opportunities for pups.

Hatfield House

What's even cuter than puppy pictures? Puppies paired with children, of course. Warning! Take one peek at Chap and Pup's profile and you will lose an hour or two to scrolling through their adorable photos. Dapper Adrian and his pup Maddie paid a visit to Hatfield House last year, and we have to say, their choice of magnolia tree and bluebells made a rather fetching backdrop for their adventures. And with Hatfield's extensive parkland and three walks to discover, it does make a great day out for four and two-legged little ones.

Hatfield Forest

Beautiful Belka the beagle has quite the sartorial range, with clothes including coats, bandanas and an impressive collection of knitwear. But it's Belka's choice in walkies locations that we're really excited about. Here she is modelling amongst the buttercups at the National Trust's Hatfield Forest, an ancient hunting forest with a history stretching back nearly two thousand years! And with miles of paths to explore, no two walks here need be the same, so you don't need to chase your tail trying to find your dog's next day out.
