Getting Here

Hertfordshire is just north of London, and is easy to access by road, rail and by air. Once you are in the county, there is also a good bus network for getting between many attractions. With a fantastic range of transport links, you can say goodbye to the stresses of getting here and simply focus on all the fun things to do when you arrive. To plan your journey and to learn about public transport ticket options for group bus travel and combined rail + bus tickets, visit www.intalink.org.uk

BY RAIL

National Rail and some London Transport services provide efficient routes to reach Hertfordshire from the capital, taking you to leading attractions and locations from central London in as little as 20 minutes. There is also excellent access from other parts of the UK via the East and West Coast main lines.

Rail and metro services operated by Govia Thameslink Railway (via its Thameslink and Great Northern lines) serve South, Central and North Herts. London Midland covers Southwest and West Herts, alongside some Southern Rail services. Abellio Greater Anglia serves East Herts and the Lea Valley attractions. The Transport for London network also reaches parts of Hertfordshire direct, such as the Metropolitan Line to Watford and Three Rivers area and London Overground to Cheshunt and the southern Lea Valley. If travelling from London, Oyster or contactless debit cards can be used on TfL services and on selected National Rail routes (check operator’s website for full details). Do also check out PlusBus rail add-on tickets to allow unlimited onward bus travel from the station within that town’s bus zone. If travelling from the Midlands or North, West and East Coast mainline services often stops at Watford Junction and Stevenage.

BY ROAD

Explore the county by road using the A1(M) or M1 from London or north of the county. There are also excellent road links into the county from/to the M25 such as the A10, A414, and A41.

BY BUS

Hertfordshire County Council runs the Intalink Partnership, whose members include all of the Bus Companies operating in the county. With the exception of a small number of TfL services crossing the border with London, Oyster and contactless are not available on our buses, so you will need to pay a driver in cash, or some operators provide an m-ticket option for use on a smartphone. The Explorer ticket offers great value for group travel for up to four adults on any bus within Hertfordshire and from selected locations outside the County (but not London).

BY AIR

The county can also be reached easily from each of London’s main airports, with both London Luton and London Stansted airports right on the county’s border. London Heathrow is just outside the county, only 30 minutes away from St Albans, while you can reach London Gatwick in just over an hour.

We hope you enjoy your journey!
