The Museum of Everyday Life in Roman Britain – Verulamium was the third largest city of Roman Britain and the museum is built on the site of the Roman town. The displays show what life was like for Roman people with displays of objects found during excavations in the local area.

Inside you will find:

  • recreated Roman rooms and hands-on discovery areas
  • The Sandridge Hoard – a collection of roman gold coins found locally in 2012 by a local metal detectorist
  • a video about the excavations
  • some of the finest Roman mosaics and wall plasters outside the Mediterranean
  • a gift shop in partnership with The British Museum with a wide range of products from pocket-money items to books, jewellery and decorative pieces.

Families at Verulamium – Check out the family activities and events on our What’s On pages. There is also have a selection of free activity sheets for children of all ages and dressing up clothes available in the museum on weekends and school holidays.

Free gallery talks take place most weekends at 3pm and there are often drop-in activities for children to join in with. For more details of what’s on, please visit our website.

Opening Times

Opening hours Monday to Saturday: 10am to 5.30pm (last admission at 5pm) Sunday: 2pm to 5.30pm (last admission at 5pm) During Bank Holidays we are usually open normal hours. Please note: during term-time, we often have school groups visiting, so the gallery can get busy during certain periods, but is generally quieter after about 3pm. If you have any concerns, do give us a ring.
