The collections cover a wide period of local history, ranging from archaeology, geology and natural history of the area to a unique new town archive of maps, plans, photographs and oral histories.

The museum runs plenty of hands on activities for visitors of all ages, including holiday activities, lunch time talks and under 5s sessions.

The museum also has a busy program of temporary exhibitions which in the past have included the Stevenage Charter Fair, the Ice Age and even BMX and skateboards!
