Stevenage Museum is a small, family-friendly community museum telling the story of the town from pre-history to the modern day, including the evolution of Britain’s first post-war new town.
The museum has a collection of over 18,000 photographs and 10,000 objects in relation to the history of Stevenage! The collections cover a wide period of local history, ranging from archaeology, geology and natural history of the area to a unique new town archive of maps, plans, photographs and oral histories.
The museum runs plenty of hands on activities for visitors of all ages, including holiday activities, lunch time talks and under 5s sessions.
The museum also has a busy program of temporary exhibitions which in the past have included the Stevenage Charter Fair, the Ice Age and even BMX and skateboards!
The museum is open Wednesday – Friday, 10am – 4:30pm and on Saturdays 10am – 5pm.
