The Aquadrome Local Nature Reserve forms the northern gateway to the Colne Valley Regional Park. The 41ha site we see today is the result of gravel extraction that left behind large holes in the valley floor that now form Batchworth and Bury Lakes. The lakes naturally filled with water when extraction stopped in the 1920s, aided by natural springs. Batchworth Lake is now topped up by the River Colne, and then drains in to the lower lying Bury Lake. A range of clubs operate at the Aquadrome, from sailing and water skiing to fishing and model yacht sailing. Why not follow one of the surfaced routes around the lakes as to see what you can discover?
