Our guide to an eggcellent Easter holidays!

Alex Valentine
1st April 2022

The daffodils are springing up in to full bloom, Easter eggs are filling our supermarket shelves and we’re all (sort of!) looking towards two weeks with the kids at home… it can only be the Easter holidays! Though we’re not sure what this weather will be up to this April, we’ve got plenty of plans for your Easter break whether it’s how to keep the kids entertained mid-week, or must-see events for the long weekend! Let’s get eggs-ploring Herts...(sorry!)…

Family fun at Henry Moore

Nestled in the quaint hamlet of Perry Green is the marvelous Henry Moore Studios and Gardens, where children can run free and get a little art history education on the way. Moore’s iconic nature-inspired statues sit beautifully in the evergreen gardens and provide a tranquil picturesque setting for a fun and educational day out. Bring your own food or pre-book your picnic from their cafe for a treat for the parents too!

Arts in Herts

Paradise Wildlife Park

We know PWP as the home of our favourite animals in Herts, but now we’re about to meet some very different ones as they allow us to meet and greet some prehistoric wonders! Come face to face with over 30 life-size, moving and roaring animatronic dinosaurs as you travel through time at one of the UK’s biggest and most spectacular animatronic dinosaur attractions. Stop for a spot of lunch on your jungle adventure in the Land of the Tigers at their Bamboo Kitchen - Asian cuisine restaurant with 180 degrees viewing of the tiger territory!

Jurassic Encounter at Cassiobury Park

Dinosaurs are very much on the menu this Easter in Herts as Jurassic Encounter makes its UK debut at Cassiobury Park, Watford! This must-see family event features 50 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs from the Jurassic, Triassic and Cretaceous periods. Education and entertaining – what more could we want from a family day out?

Scotts Grotto

Scott's Grotto, built in the late 18th Century by the Quaker Poet John Scott will be well worth a visit this Easter! Re-opening on Saturday April 2nd, this magicial spot will be open on Saturdays until September, but it's their annual Easter Egg Trail on Sunday 10th April that we'll be looking forward to the most...

St Albans

We all know St Albans here at Visit Herts, but do you? The magnificent cathedral, rambling alleyways and medieval buildings of St Albans hide stories of wily Abbots, scandalous inn landlords, weary pilgrims and revolting peasants. Not forgetting, of course, the Romans with their fine mosaics and theatre. Take the family on a St Albans City Tour guide over the Easter weekend and learn some fascinating local history!

Easter at Celtic Harmony Camp

Enjoy a fun family adventure this Easter, in the safe and stimulating outdoor setting of Celtic Harmony Camp, with thatched roundhouses located in a beautiful native woodland. Relax with good food, fun activities, exciting friction fire lighting demos and storytelling. Explore the woodland on a dragon quest, craft your own clay egg and Celtic dream catcher or practice your aim on the Mammoth…

St Albans Museum and Gallery

Head to the St Albans Museums this Easter for a visual feast at their exhibition, Anna Ray: Fibre and Form. Large scale textile wall pieces make up this bright and beautiful exhibit, and if you’re feeling inspired after your cultural visit, you can attend their Family Block Printing workshop on 6th April! Go on, roll up your sleeves and unleash that creativity…

The Big Hoot Hemel

Continue on your artistic journey in Herts with The Big Hoot Hemel which runs until 19th April. There will be 12 sculptures located around Hemel Hempstead leading visitors from The Marlowes along to the Old Town, into Gadebridge Park and the Watergardens. Each sculpture has a story to tell and will have individual plaques providing artist information, and you can follow the trail through their app! A little birdy tells us that everyone who scans in at all 12 locations will also be entered into a prize draw to win £100 to spend in a Hemel Hempstead business of their choice…
